Cleaning & Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures reliable performance and extends the life of your Data Walker.
Cleaning the Device
Main Unit
- Wipe the enclosure with a soft, damp cloth
- Use isopropyl alcohol (70%) for disinfection
- Avoid getting moisture in the USB port
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents
- Allow to dry completely before use
Display
- Clean with a microfiber cloth
- Use screen cleaner if needed (spray on cloth, not screen)
- Do not press hard on the display
Sensor and Cable
- Wipe sensor housing with alcohol wipes
- Check RJ22 connectors for debris
- Inspect cable for wear or damage
- Replace cable if outer sheath is damaged
Infection Control
In clinical settings, follow your facility's infection control protocols. The device should be cleaned between patients when used on shared equipment.
Wheel Magnets
- Periodically check that magnets are secure
- Clean adhesive residue if a magnet comes loose
- Re-attach with strong adhesive (cyanoacrylate or epoxy)
- Run self-test after replacing any magnet
Inspection Schedule
Recommended inspection frequency:
- Daily: Visual check of display and connections
- Weekly: Clean enclosure, check cable condition
- Monthly: Run self-test, verify calibration, check magnets
- Quarterly: Full calibration verification against measured course
Storage
- Store in a dry location
- Avoid extreme temperatures (below 0°C or above 45°C)
- Keep away from strong magnetic fields
- Charge battery before long-term storage
- Coil cables loosely to prevent damage
