Power Bank

The Data Walker uses an external USB-C power bank that is user-replaceable and can be charged independently from the device.

Power Bank Specifications

  • Type: External USB-C power bank (Kioson or equivalent)
  • Capacity: 5000mAh
  • Output: USB-C PD, 3A
  • Display: LED percentage indicator
  • Runtime: Multiple days of clinical use on a single charge
  • User-replaceable: Yes - standard USB-C power banks are compatible

Charging the Power Bank

The power bank can be charged while attached to the device or separately:

Charging While Attached

  1. Connect a USB-C cable to the power bank's input port
  2. Connect the other end to a USB power source
  3. The LED display shows charging progress
  4. Charging is complete when the display shows 100%

Charging Separately

  1. Detach the power bank from the Data Walker
  2. Connect to any USB-C charger
  3. Charge to desired level
  4. Reattach to the device when ready

Reading the LED Display

The power bank has a digital LED display that shows the exact battery percentage:

  • 100-50%: Plenty of charge for multiple sessions
  • 50-20%: Good for several more tests, consider charging soon
  • Below 20%: Charge before next clinical session
  • Display off: Press button on power bank to wake display

Battery Best Practices

  • Keep a spare: Have a second charged power bank ready for busy days
  • Charge overnight: Plug in at the end of each clinic day
  • Avoid full discharge: Charge when battery drops below 20%
  • Temperature: Charge at room temperature (15-25°C / 59-77°F)
  • Quality chargers: Use reputable USB-C chargers rated for at least 5V/2A

Replacing the Power Bank

The power bank is a standard component that can be replaced:

  • Recommended: Kioson 5000mAh USB-C power bank (or equivalent)
  • Requirements: USB-C output, 5000mAh minimum, compact form factor
  • Where to buy: Available on Amazon and other retailers

Troubleshooting

Power bank not charging

  • Try a different USB-C cable
  • Try a different power source/charger
  • Ensure the cable is connected to the input port, not output
  • Press the button on the power bank to check if it responds

Device not powering on

  • Check power bank charge level (press button to see LED display)
  • Ensure power bank is firmly connected to device USB-C port
  • Try a different power bank if available
  • Check USB-C port on device for debris

Power bank drains quickly

  • Normal runtime is multiple days - rapid drain indicates a failing power bank
  • Replace with a new 5000mAh USB-C power bank
  • Lithium batteries degrade after 2-3 years of heavy use
